Most of the time, an employment agency is required for processing paperwork for your helper-to-be, but there are some exceptions.
In Hong Kong, if you are hiring a finished contract Filipino helper currently working in the city, the paperwork can be done at the Philippine consulate and the Hong Kong immigration without using an agency. For information on processing the paperwork yourself, follow this step-by-step guide.
In Singapore, if you are hiring a transfer maid, you can apply for a work permit for her on the Ministry of Manpower (MOM)'s website. MOM has listed the steps for helper work permit online application. See our guide for more information.
In Qatar, if you want to hire a maid without using an agency, you can either hire a maid with a valid residence permit and a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) signed by the maid's current sponsor. To hire a maid on local transfer, you will need to submit a 'transfer sponsorship' application in person in the Ministry of Interior (MOI).
For other countries, please contact your local governmental agency in charge of domestic helper visa for more information about processing paperwork yourself.
HelperChoice has partner employment agencies in Hong Kong and Singapore to help employers with helper visa documentation. For more information on the steps to paperwork processing, read here if you are in Hong Kong and read here if you are in Singapore.
